So here's the rundown.
We know it can feel daunting when picking out what to wear for photos. So many factors about your clothes can affect the look of the images and on top of that, you want to look your best too! So here is a guideline that we’ve put together to help make up your mind and ultimately bring the best outcome for your photos.
The goal : look like yourselves. Yes we want you guys to look hot and be all over each other while feeling 10/10 but we want your images to bring out your love rather than what you are wearing. So wear what you normally wear. The most important thing is that you feel and look like yourselves, which means be as comfortable as possible! Rather than going shopping for new outfits before the shoot, bring what you normally wear. Stuff that’s already in your closet, that you love and feel completely yourselves in. An old band t shirt and ripped jeans? Perfect. Really anything that represents YOU.
Who cares if you look back at the photos in 20 years and laugh about what you’re wearing? As long as it represented what you guys are like right now, thats all that matters. Plus, guys are usually not all that stoked about putting on a collared ironed button up with dress shoes if they’re used to wearing flannels and board shorts every day. Pinky promise they’ll be way more happy to be at the shoot if you don’t force an outfit he thinks is stupid haha.
*Full Disclaimer : We don’t know anything about fashion haha. Seriously our “style” consists of socially acceptable pajamas. For Caleb he’s most likely shirtless with board shorts.. on occasion switching it up with some linen clothing and tie die pants. While Cece is most likely wearing some thrift store score, birks with socks, or pretty much mens clothes she’s stolen from Caleb and her brother. But this guideline is compiled from what we’ve found to work best from trial and error on past shoots. They are only guidelines, not rules! You could honestly show up in your pajamas for all we care (and you’d probably be matching us anyways).

Here’s a few guidelines to help if you’re feeling lost about what to wear :
First off, we always recommend to bring options. To get the best results, I’ll pick and pull from the options you bring for you guys to change into for each location we shoot at. This way we can make sure the outfits compliment the environment so that the focus is on you two, not on any distractions, which yes, can be your outfits. All you have to do is make sure you bring stuff that you feel like a million bucks in that we can pick and pull from!
–
Don’t bring your whole closet though. It will take too much time for us to go through everything and will take time away from your session. Most people bring about 3 or 4 pairs of bottoms and 4 or 5 tops each, then you can bring dresses, accessories, jackets and whatnot as well. Also, just know that depending on where we are shooting, you’ll most likely be changing in the back of the car on the side of the road. If you aren’t down with that, that’s totally fine and you can just bring one outfit! Just make sure to text us a few photos of the outfit options you have and we can pick it out together beforehand.
Make sure it makes sense.
Think about the conditions and locations we are going to be shooting in and plan around it. If we are going to be hiking around the mountains, bring shoes with good grip and you won’t twist your ankles in. If we are shooting on a sandy beach, it would look weird if you’re wearing shoes (ps heels are almost always a bad idea in most scenarios, unless you’re freakishly good at walking in them haha). If it’s freezing cold outside, bring lots of layers and warm clothes with wool socks and boots. If it’s going to be hot, bring clothes that can breathe more so you don’t have sweaty pit stains in the photos. Be as comfortable as you can be!
Movement
Like we said, make sure that the materials you wear will keep you comfortable during the shoot not only for temperatures but also for being able to move around in. If you're in brand new jeans that are still stiff and tight, you might be distracted during the shoot trying to make sure everything stays in place as well as lets you sit and run and move around in. We recommend bringing clothes that are "broken in" so that you'll be as comfortable as possible. We also love when people bring clothing or accessories that can show movement by catching wind, because it adds energy to the photos and looks freaking gorgeous!
Colors
We typically recommend sticking with neutrals and earthy tones. Neutral doesn't mean just gray and browns, theres neutrals of every color (mustard yellow, forest green, navy blue, burnt orange, etc). Stay away from bright fluorescent distracting colors. The only colors we typically recommend staying away from are pinks, bright oranges, and reds. Unless you are dark and have olive toned skin and can get away with it in certain lighting conditions, most of the time it just makes peoples skin look really pink/orange and weird in photos. So just try to stay away from those colors if you can but if you really want to wear one of those colors just check with us! If you're still feeling lost, look through some of our past or recent galleries for inspo.

Patterns
Avoid big, loud, chunky, crazy patterns. The smaller or more subtle, the better! If the pattern is too loud, it will distract from your faces. If you have bigger patterns, aim for neutral tones! Flannels are always a yes in my book (probably because we wear one almost every evening haha). I usually try to avoid pairing too many patterns together because, you guessed it, it makes the photos feel a little hectic and distracting from your faces and the location. So if you are wearing a floral dress then have him wear something simple and neutral. If he is wearing a flannel, then you can wear something simple and neutral. Also, be sure to iron your clothes before so there’s not huge wrinkles distracting from your faces either!
Props
Immediately when we think of "props" we think of those cheesy Pinterest chalkboards and other cheesy props from around the house that are brought to shoots and pretty much make you cringe.. Dont worry we're not going for that either haha. Not all props have too be cheesy though! Props could be as fun as a whiskey and pizza picnic, blankets, motorcycles, classic cars, paddle/surf boards, and your pup (pets are always encouraged and if you don't bring them it will probably break our hearts). Honestly just let us know and we can try to incorporate some props in a non cheesy way!

Hair and Makeup
A lot of people ask us about getting their hair and make up done and we say it is completely up to them! In our opinion, you should look and feel like YOURSELF. If you’re like Cece and don’t normally wear makeup and your hair is usually in a top bun.. then you should stick to minimal makeup if anything at all!
We can’t even tell you how many times we’ve had girls show up to shoots wiping off the caked on makeup because it just doesn’t look like them. But, if you want your hair and makeup done, then definitely do it, because the most important thing is that you feel confident always. The main thing is to be comfortable and feel like yourself.
And that’s about it!
If you have anymore questions or just want some feedback, let us know! We can even create a little Pinterest mood board together also. We want to capture your true, real, and authentic self. So unless you are done up all the time, skip the excessive makeup (especially heels) and fancy button ups, and go for the baggy sweater that you love paired with those vans you’ve had since 7th grade. Do you!
