something i love about being a destination photogr something i love about being a destination photographer is the language barrier you encounter at times. Xiaoyin and Yu Chi were so precious. at the start of most sessions where language has a barrier, i express through google translate that I want them to embrace each other, have fun, and pretend i’m taking a video of their love. questionnaires beforehand help soooo much as well. one of the questions I love asking my couples is “what do you want your photos to feel like?” - this establishes a feeling for both them and i that translates so well in the imagery.

the entire session we made funny gestures, giggled, embraced the elements, and just felt an overall authenticity. from the moment we got there she kicked off her shoes, ran around in her dress, made out with her boo, and embodied the most wild and free feminine spirit I had ever seen. i just adore these two 🫶🏼
i like to imagine that when i’m old i’ll have i like to imagine that when i’m old i’ll have multiple dusty old photographs tucked away in a shoe box under my bed. a shoe box i started contributing to when i was just 7 years old. with a few wrinkles and bends, beautifully discolored by the aged patina and coffee stains. that i’ll look through as i hold space for each and every experience of my life. and when i die maybe these photos will be donated to the local thrift store. while some kid stumbles upon them as she’s out thrifting with her friends. she’ll flip through them and see an unfamiliar stranger in an unfamiliar time at a place that is familiar capsuled on a piece of paper. and she’ll be inspired to fully live and experience her very own life. in all aspects of her precious human experience. she’ll hug her friends and kiss the earth. she’ll tell her family she loves them. and she’ll take herself across the globe to experience and grow in the unknown. preserving her own feelings and moments through the lens of her camera.

and through time photography will continue to sustainably preserve the heartbeat of humanity as the world continues to technologically advance 🌾

if nothing else, that’s my why. the intention behind holding a camera in my hand for the past 17 years.

a special thank you to the random stranger who clicked the shutter for us in Iceland. i’ll be cherishing this one forever 🫶🏼
watching the sun rise up over the mountains while watching the sun rise up over the mountains while being in the ocean has got to be one of the best feelings in the world 🫶🏼

we took Johnny & Amanda to one of our favorite beaches just below our hawaii house before their wedding to hang out and play in the water 🤍 my parents used to drop us off at this beach to play all day. i spent hours walking around in my own lil world. looking for old fishing line and hooks to catch my own fish. and then cry once i did making my brother kill them. i talked to myself while looking for sea shells in the tide pools and exploring all of the little tunnels and caves in the entangled trees. i would disappear into the lava field for hours and make my brother so mad because he was responsible for me haha.

there’s truly such a special feeling when shooting somewhere so close to home. but there’s also so much excitement in the big unknown. pretty much every session i do here in nor cal requires tonssss of location scouting which is something i’ve never really had to do growing up in hawaii! unless i was traveling for work. and while i love it so much, these photos give me all the nostalgic feels of home 💭
bundled up with a warm coffee in hand. listening t bundled up with a warm coffee in hand. listening to Sigur Ros while watching the snow caress the freshly blossomed trees outside of our window 🫶🏼

last week i snuck some photos in while we were playing in the snow with our friends. it was a precious moment, living in our first real winter in a beautiful state park that we now call home 💫
